IU Bloomington requires incoming students with prior knowledge of a world language to take the online placement exam.  Since it is not proctored, the exam is only for course placement and does not award credits or fulfill requirements.

Students can receive IU credits and fulfill language requirements in high school by successfully completing concurrent enrollment courses through the Advance College Program (ACP), or by achieving a 3 or higher on the AP exam. IB and similar courses and accreditation may also be awarded credits after the student has taken an additional test on campus.

For specific information about placement, please see Placement and Language Certification, or send your questions to our Outreach Coordinator.
