Claire is a PhD candidate in German Studies with a minor in Jewish studies. Her dissertation, "Narrative Bystanders: A History of Mitleid and Implication in Observing Suffering in German Literature,” explores how emotional engagement with narratives of suffering both implicates and transforms third party observers. She conducts research in Fritz Breithaupt's Experimental Humanities Lab and is also a HASTAC scholar in digital humanities for the 2022-23 academic year. In addition to her academic pursuits, Claire enjoys running, freshly baked bread, and puns of all shapes and sizes.
