College of Arts + Sciences Foreign Language Requirement

The College of Arts and Sciences requires all undergraduate majors to demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language.

German Online Placement Exam

All incoming freshmen and transfer students who have previous German experience are required to take the exam prior to arriving at orientation.

ETS German Advanced Placement (AP) Exam

High school students may be awarded course credits based on their score.

German Adaptive Proficiency Exam

Incoming freshmen who enrolled in International Baccalaureate (IB) courses in German in high school may be awarded credits based on their score.

IU Advance College Project (ACP) Concurrent Enrollment

Concurrent enrollment coursework in German successfully completed in high school will be awarded with equivalent course credit.

Special Credit in German

To earn special credit, you must take the German Online Placement Test and then complete a validating course.

Special Credit in Dutch and Norwegian

Special credit is also available to qualified students in Dutch and Norwegian.
