Music is so much more than a fun way to pass the time ¿ it shows us living and breathing culture that is inextricably linked to the language of its expression. In this course, we will explore multiple genres of German-language music with a focus on the past 50 years, analyzing music videos and lyrics from the world of punk, hip-hop, pop, folk, metal, electronica, and so much in between, all to better understand the beat of the German-speaking world and the lives of those who dance/sing/mosh/thrash/work to it. This course will be held entirely in German and will emphasize discussion, but also include tests, essays, and presentations. Required Text Mohr, Tim (2017). Stirb nicht im Warteraum der Zukunft: Die Ostdeutschen Punks und der Fall der Mauer. Heyne Verlag. ISBN-13: 9783453271272 * Other required texts will be provided via Canvas
