Topic: Sexuality and Gender in Germany "When is a man a man?" asks a 1980¿s German pop song. This course explores issues of sexuality and gender, focusing on historical, social, and political developments in Germany from the late 19th century to the present. Topics to be discussed may include: * The advent of sexology * Shifting views on gender roles, homosexuality, transsexuality * Laws on and attitudes toward abortion, contraception, age of consent, pornography, gay marriage * Sex education - in school and elsewhere * Celebrating the body - 'free body culture' * Gender-neutral language Readings in English and German, discussion and assignments in German. Course materials will be available through CANVAS.
