Course Description Music is so much more than a fun way to pass the time -- it shows us living and breathing culture that is inextricably linked to the language of its expression. In this course, we will explore multiple genres of German-language music with a focus on the past 50 years, analyzing music videos and lyrics from the world of punk, hip-hop, pop, folk, metal, electronica, and so much in between, all to better understand the beat of the German-speaking world and the lives of those who dance/sing/mosh/thrash/work to it. This course will be held entirely in German and will emphasize discussion, but also include tests, essays, and presentations. Required Text* Mohr, Tim (2017). Stirb nicht im Warteraum der Zukunft: Die Ostdeutschen Punks und der Fall der Mauer. Heyne Verlag. ISBN-13: 978-3453271272 * Other required texts will be provided via Canvas
