Lecture (LEC)
Syntax is the branch of linguistics that deals with the relationships between words. This course introduces the syntax of Modern German, emphasizing the description of syntactic phenomena and analyses in both traditional and Generative frameworks. We will also devote considerable time to compare the syntax of German with that of Dutch. No background in linguistics is required. The course will be taught entirely in English, although some readings may be in German.
