Postdramatic theatre shifts the focus of the theater from representation to presence. In so doing, performances of different cultural spaces come into view without overemphasizing a given text and thus a national theatre based on language. Based on the interconnection of the postdramatic and the transcultural, the contributions of this volume develop innovative theoretical frames, methods, and approaches to contemporary theatrical forms, theatrical texts and stagings. They argue for an analytical approach to theatre that deliberately crosses national, cultural and professional boundaries.
